All are welcome!

When we say that you are welcome here, we mean it! This is God’s house and we all belong to the body of Christ.. At Newton Presbyterian Church, our aim is to provide a place where all are accepted and valued for who they are.

The Christian faith begins with the assurance that you are unconditionally and deeply loved by God. As a community, we seek to reflect that love, offering a safe and welcoming environment for all of God’s children—regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or background.

Whoever you are, you are beloved and we invite you to join us!

Here’s a summary of what you can expect on your first visit:

Arrive at Newton Presbyterian Church

We're located at 75 Vernon Street in Newton, MA. You are welcome to park anywhere in the parking lot at the front of the building or on the neighboring streets where indicated by the city parking signs. We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes early for your first visit so we can welcome you and orient you to the space.

Come On In

You can enter our building by using the glass doors directly from the parking lot. The sanctuary is to your left and the vestry (our fellowship hall) is straight ahead.

When you enter the sanctuary, you can pick up a bulletin with details about the worship service and upcoming events. Feel free to ask anyone if you have any questions. You can then grab a seat anywhere you like in the sanctuary. We encourage folks to sit closer to the front.

If you’ve never been to church before – that’s okay! Your worship bulletin will tell you everything you need to know to participate fully in the service. (And please let us know if there is anything missing. We are always striving to ensure everyone feels as welcome as possible!)

Enjoy!

Our goal is for you to leave our worship services spiritually refreshed and uplifted, with an enhanced understanding of how much God loves you and how you can share that love with others.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you one of those fire and brimstone churches?

At Newton Presbyterian Church, we take the Bible seriously but do not believe it is intended to be read literally. The Bible contains many truths for our lives, and we are called as a community to engage with those truths thoughtfully and with curiosity. We do not believe the Bible to be inerrant or infallible. Rather, we follow generations of Christians in looking to words of scripture for guidance and insight into how God might be speaking to us in our current time and place.

Where is Newton Presbyterian Church

We are located at 75 Vernon Street in Newton, MA. We are on the 57 bus line and just off the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90).

What time does worship start?

Our worship services start at 10:15 a.m. every Sunday.

What should I wear?

There is no specific dress code – you are invited to come just as you are. If you are comfortable enough to walk around in public in what you are wearing, then you are dressed just fine!

What are your worship services like?

Our services are joy-filled, interactive, and use down-to-earth language and illustrations. Each follows a similar format, mixing prayers, beautiful  music, and scripture readings from the Bible.

The centerpiece of every service is a 15-to-20-minute sermon that draws insights from the day’s Bible readings to explore the depth and breadth of God’s love for us and questions regarding how we might better love ourselves and others in response to God’s movement in our lives.

It’s our commitment that you will leave our worship services spiritually refreshed, with a clearer understanding of how the Christian faith and the wisdom of scripture is relevant and impactful to your life…and likely many more questions to reflect on throughout the week ahead!

Do I have to bring money for an offering?

We believe that God is the source of all good gifts and that God calls us to respond to God’s love for us. We are a small, independently funded congregation that deeply appreciates your financial support, though making a donation is never required. We collect an offering  during our worship services by passing offering plates. if you’d prefer, you can make an online donation through Venmo or via the donation page on our website. As we often say in worship: when we all do a little, it adds up to a lot!

Can I take communion?

Yes! At Newton Presbyterian Church we celebrate communion (or the Lord’s Supper or Eucharist) at least monthly on the first Sunday of each month. We believe that communion is a physical representation of Jesus’ radical, inclusive love. Our church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), has an understanding that Christ’s table is an open table.  If you have a desire to know or experience this love, you are welcome to come forward and participate – there are no prerequisites.
